❥ Personality
Sabine is a very passionate, individualistic person. She has a tendency to do things her own way and often modifies or ignores orders in favor of her own plan, often putting her at odds with the one who came up with the initial plan. She remembers her time at the Imperial Academy, when she was expected to be unquestioningly obedient, to be one long nightmare, and as such often has trouble just following a plan without knowing the full details of why. Whenever she feels something is wrong she often first to speak out about it, refusing to simply go along with the hope that it is the right thing or that the ends will justify the means. Despite how outspoken she can be about missions and plans, Sabine rarely opens up about her feelings keeping her emotions very close to the chest; as noticed by Ezra when he comments on how often she spends time in her room alone. When learning how to wield the Darksaber, her withholding the past from her crew led to a severe mental block that prevented her from progressing. This culminates in a dramatic duel between her and Kanan, in which she finally breaks down and reveals her past.
A skilled warrior, Sabine is very adept at using her environment to her advantage in a fight relying on her surroundings and adapting quickly to the situation. Coming from a Mandalorian family and a long line of fighters she is very skilled and legitimately enjoys the thrill of battle. This is especially true when she has the chance to show off her skills as a demolition expert to blow something up. Also taking pleasure when she just knows how badly she is messing up some poor Imperial’s day. Sabine also has a love for art and enjoys adding color to everything around her as a means of expressing herself, stating that she paints what she sees and feels. Easily bored, she periodically changes the look of her hair and armor, as well as the various murals that she has painted around the ship in each member's room.
As an artist, Sabine often adds deeper meaning to her work, such as the phoenix rising from the ashes, an Imperial property such as Stormtrooper helmets and a TIE Fighter covered in bright colors, etc. She is fully aware of the symbolism attached with wielding the Darksaber, causing her at first to hesitate from taking it up at all. When deeply upset, she can occasionally become single minded, such as when she was so obsessed with taking revenge on Fenn Rau for nearly killing Hera that she nearly destroyed any chance of peace with the Protectors.
To Sabine, her full potential doesn’t mean having a role of leadership or power, as seen in her resistance to wielding the darksaber, as well as her willingness to turn it over to Bo-katan. Sabine’s potential in her mind is being able to live free our from under the Empire or anyone else’s rule, to be able to do what she feels is right without having to justify it, being able to fight for whatever cause she feels is justified. That ultimate potential being the ability to fully express herself through her art, as well as through the traditions and beliefs of her people as well. In being a part of a movement to help and liberate others, while having the chance to remain alongside her found family. A life in which she is no longer haunted by the nightmares of the weapons that she created for the Empire that were used against her people, and where she is able to protect those closest to her so that she never has to lose them again.
